Rodman, Herb Jr. (16 NOV 1931 - 31 MAY 2004)

Herb Rodman Jr., 72, Athens, died Monday, May 31, 2004 in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.

He was born November 16, 1931 in the town of Frankfort son of the late Herbert G. and Mary (Hoff) Rodman. On September 3, 1952 he married Vernell Weiler at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. She survives.

Herb was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew J. Sutter Jr. Post No. 8527, Athens. Following military service he worked at Hurd Millwork, Medford and later farmed in the town of Goodrich. In 1980 the Rodman's moved to Athens and he worked for PDM Bridge, Wausau until his retirement in 1996.

Herb was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens and was an adult server for funeral masses. He enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, traveling, dancing, going to the casino, playing cards, carpentry work and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He was also an avid Packers fan.

Survivors include his wife Vernell Rodman, Athens; four daughters, Lorna (John) Roesler, Medford, Cindy (Jerry) Dassow, Medford, Mary Rodman, Mondovi, Sarah (Jim) Nowacki, Athens; one son, Dale (Chris Russell) Rodman, Mondovi; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd (Shirley) Rodman, Medford, Glenn Rodman, Kenai, Alaska, Randy (Linda) Rodman, Milwaukee; one sister, Diana (Dennis) Ibis, Owen; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Nyle Rodman and a sister, Nancy Heier.

The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a Parish Rosary service Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Athens funeral home, followed by a VFW memorial service.
