DeYoung, Peter (10 SEP 1925 - 23 SEP 2016)

Peter DeYoung, 91, recently of Edgar, and Mesa, Ariz., died on September 23, under hospice care in Holland, Mich.

He was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Woodstock, Minn., to Teunis P. and Henrietta (Mouw) DeYoung.

He graduated from Thornton Township High School and Thornton Junior College in Harvey, Ill.
He operated farms in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, gradually retiring in his 80s.
He enjoyed spending winters in Mesa. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Edgar and worshiped faithfully with Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Mesa. Peter was a World War II Army Veteran, a skilled card player, and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who was following their 2016 season with great interest and expectation.

Peter is survived by children, Lee and Sheri DeYoung of Jenison, Mich., Wayne and JoAnne DeYoung of Manteno, Ill., Terry and Cindi (Veldheer) DeYoung of Holland, Mich., Kent DeYoung and Joe Miracle of Santa Fe, N.M., Burt and Dawn DeYoung of Edgar, and daughter-in-law, Penny DeYoung of Dyer, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kathryn Vinke of South Holland, Ill., Jack and Ellen DeYoung of Lynden, Wash., and Jim DeYoung of Avon Lake, Ohio; and numerous in-laws; nieces and nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, in 1965; his first wife of 58 years, June, in 2006; his second wife of three years, JoAnn, in 2011; and siblings, Evelyn and Joseph Bass, John L. Vinke, Ted and Barbara DeYoung and Cathy DeYoung.

A funeral service was held September 27, at Wilton Center Federated Church in Manhattan, Ill., with burial following at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, Ill.
