Petersen, Sylvia (29 SEP 1917 – 27 APR 2016)

Sylvia Kallio Petersen, age 98, passed away on April 27, 2016 at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center on Owen.

Sylvia was born in Stambaugh, MI on September 29, 1917 to Andrew and Safira (Oksanen) Kallio. The family moved to Owen, when she was 12 and she graduated from Owen High School in 1935.

Sylvia married, Woodrow Petersen on August 16, 1940 and they farmed in Frenchtown until 1964. They then bought the former finish parsonage in Owen, where they had married.

Sylvia worked at Griebnow's Department Store in Owen before she went to work for the Owen-Curtis Bank. They then vacationed for several years in McAllen, TX area and fell in love with the area. Upon her retirement from the bank in 1980, they spent their winter months in McAllen.

Sylvia loved to garden and grow her flowers, she also loved to knit, read, play cards, and socialize. She was a people person, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is missed and mourned by her son; Jim (Kay) Petersen of Portage, two grandsons: Mike (Ruth) of Wisconsin Dells and Mitch (Amelia) of Fond Du Lac, and five great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Ben, Gracie, Ashton, and Emmie as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Woodrow in 1993, her parents, a sister, and brother; Tiovo.

There will be a visitation at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee from 11:30-1:00 PM on May 14, 2016, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM at the Nazareth Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Owen is entrusted with arrangements for the Petersen Family.
