Smith, Richard (24 November 1931 - 23 April 2016)

Richard Smith, age 84, received his eternal reward on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at his home in Stanley, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.

Dick was born in Stanley on November 24, 1931, to Ervin and Maxine (Carmien) Smith. He graduated from Stanley High School, where he played I n the first night football game at Chapman Park. After graduation, he spent some years framing and spent a number of years working at the Stanley Corporation and Northern Wisconsin Center. Dick also spent a number of years as an electrician.

On October 16, 1951, Dick married June Brown in Stanley, Wisconsin. Together, they had nine children, 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren (and counting).

Dick was always ready with a story and quick to make everyone laugh. He loved few things more than a lively conversation with family and friends. Dick loved the outdoors, especially days spent hunting and fishing. He was a constant presence at Stanley-Boyd football games and was a lifelong fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

Dick was a member of Abundant Life Pentecostal Church in Thorp and was a strong Christian example for his family. His love, his laughter and his steadfast commitment to God and his family will be sorely missed.

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, June Smith of Stanley; his sons: Paul (Mayda) Smith and Jay (Terri) Smith of Stanley and Peter (Carol) Smith of Eau Claire; his daughters: Pam Hall of Chippewa Falls, Jill (Les) Cormany of Stanley, Joyce (Alan) Millen of Fall Creek, Evelyn (Scott) Flaminio of iron Mountain, MI and Erin (Jeremy) Foxwell of Eau Claire; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his brother, James Smith of Stanley; and his sisters: June (Ted) Shilts and Mary Lee (Donald) Schmitz of Stanley, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Gilbert and Signa Brown; his brothers: Jack, Scott, Bruce and Jonathan; and his son, Joe.

Friends called from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Abundant Life Church in Thorp, with Rev. John Sindler officiating, with interment following at Oakland Cemetery in Stanley.
