Garbisch, Frederick Sr. (21 AUG 1913 – 19 DEC 1970)

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 for Frederick Garbisch Sr., 57, with the Rev. Roland Roehrs officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lucien Moh, Melvin Garbisch, Irvin Garbisch, Martin Hillert, David Hillert and Emil Schlinsog.

The congregation sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I’m But a Stranger Here,” accompanied by Mrs. Leland Garbisch, organist.

Mr. Garbisch was born August 21, 1913 in the town of Grant (Clark Co., Wis.) and received his education in the Kurth School, Zion Parochial and Granton High School. The East Ridge Guernsey Farm, which he operated in partnership with a son, Frederick, has been in the family for 108 years.

Mr. Garbisch was married at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage September 27, 1934 to Helen Schuelke, who survives him.

In 1957 he was honored as a “Progressive Dairyman” by the Granton Future Farmers of America, and in September 1964, the Garbisch family was honored as “Citizens of the Year” at the annual Fall Festival.

Mr. Garbisch was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and its Men’s club; the Lutheran Laymen’s League, and was serving on the Board of Christian Education. He was also a member of the Central Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders Association and a leader of the Pleasant Ridge 4-H Club.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Ronald and Frederick Jr., both of Granton; Joh, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Lavon) Bartsch, Granton, and Elsie, at home; 9 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Elmer Marg of Granton, Mrs. Emanuel Romang, Athens; and Mrs. Art Schimmel and Mrs. Joseph Tucker, both of Superior.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.
