Greenwood (16 May 1974)

The United Methodist Women met Friday afternoon in Grace United Methodist Church. Mrs. Verlyn Sloniker presided. Mrs. Leon Kuester read a letter from a member, Mrs. Edgar Opdycke, who now resides in South Carolina. “Thank You” notes were received from Mrs. Charlie Hare, Mrs. Carl Stabnow, Willard Zimmendorf and Mrs. Henry Keller. Miss Ruth Verhulst presented the spiritual life topic and Bible lesson. Mrs. Elery Moberg read an article written on, “The Prayer that Jesus Taught.” The next meeting will be held June 14, with Mrs. Francis Clintsman and Mrs. Lydia Tieman as hostesses. A lunch was served by Mrs. Wilbur Stewart and Mrs. Kenneth Stafford.

Mrs. Harry Plunkett has been a patient at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville since May 4. Children who visited her and at the Plunkett home over the weekend were Mrs. Dennis McCarty of Park Forest, Il., Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Plunkett of La Crosse; and Patrick Plunkett and son, Bryan, of Chippewa Falls.

Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Noah were their children, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blunck and Darl and Elise, of Union Grove; Mrs. Verlyn Noah and children of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stark and family of Neillsville; and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Noah and family and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Noah and family.

Mrs. Robert Stewart was admitted Friday to Memorial Hospital in Neillsville.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Carteron and John, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Severson, spent Sunday in Eau Claire and Independence, where they took the Carterson’s daughter, Ritajean, who had spent the weekend here.

Saturday evening visitors at the home of Mrs. James Metcalf were Mrs. Grace Metcalf of Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Metcalf and daughter, Bonnie, of Excelsior, Mn.

Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Verhulst, and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Monte Haugland of Somerset.

Mrs. Edwin Hegenbarth accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Karlen and daughter, Pamela, of Stanley, to visit in Cashton Sunday.

Mrs. Effie Swieso spent the weekend in Marshfield at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Thiede.

Mr and Mrs. Donald Speich of Eau Claire spent Sunday at the home of his mother, Mrs. Jake Speich.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerrold Kuester and family of Eau Claire spent Mother’s Day with their parents, Mr. and Mr. Lawrence Cox and Mr. and Mrs. George Kuester.

The Wednesday afternoon Bridge Club met at the home of Mrs. Bertha Dallman.

Danny Rossow was released Monday from the burn center in Milwaukee and accompanied by his wife and daughter, Cindy, spent until Thursday here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rossow and sister, Mrs. David Friske and family, before returning to their home in Round Lake Beach, Il.

Mr. and Mrs. Hans Kolpanen of Milwaukee were weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Meinholdt.
