Wetterau, Verna M. (Hager) (22 MAY 1926 - 22 NOV 2015)

Verna M. Wetterau, 89, died Sunday, November 22, 2015 under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice at Country View Assisted Living, Arpin.

She was born May 22, 1926 in Fenwood, daughter of the late Andrew and Alvina (Wiesman) Hager.

On June 10, 1948 she married Delbert Wetterau at St. John Rectory, town of Wien. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2013.

After graduating from Stevens Point Normal College she began her teaching career. Verna worked in a one room school house in Marsh Rapids. She continued teaching at many schools including St. Joseph's in Stratford. She was a charter member of "Small Town Friends" homemakers club in the Fenwood area for over 50 years. Verna was also a lifetime member of St. Peter's Ladies Aide, Fenwood as well as teaching Sunday school for many years. Teaching was her passion.

Another of her interests was traveling with her husband, Delbert and they took many trips visiting Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida and many other destinations.

Survivors include her children, Deb (Jerry) Lazarski, Stevens Point, Jeff (Beth) Wetterau, Plover, and Tad (Kris) Wetterau, Wisconsin Rapids; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four siblings, Adeline (Rex) Mortensen, Wausau, Marvin Hager, Stratford, Barb Peterson, Wausau and Janice (Clarence) Dumke, Oshkosh.

Besides her parents and husband, Delbert, she was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2015 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 424 N. 3rd Avenue, Edgar. Rev. Gail Sowell will officiate.

Entombment will be in the Garden of Eternal Rest, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In recognizing Verna's love for teaching children Christian values, memorials will be added to the scholarship fund for Pre-K/Preschoolers at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Stevens Point.

Other remembrances in lieu of flowers will be established at a later date. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Jason and Rhonda Wilcox for their kind, compassionate care of Verna over the last few years.
