She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1986 and then worked at Figi’s in Marshfield. Later, she went to work for Frank Brunner at Brunner Accounting in Neillsville. In 2000, she began employment at Citizen’s State Bank in Neillsville, where she most recently served as a loan processor.

She was treasurer for the Town of Seif for many years and was very involved with the Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal wrestling program. From youth wrestling to high school, she served on many boards and offices supporting the program. She loved attending her family’s sporting events and rarely missed when they were playing. Shelley also loved her friends and enjoyed their outings to the Badger, Packer and Brewer games.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; three children: Jessica (Kent) Fitzl of Neillsville, Marshall Opelt and Carson Opelt, both of Willard; two grandchildren, Delayni and drew Fitzl of Neillsville; her father, Pete (Toni) Shirley of Willard; her mother, Sandy Shirley of Weyauwega; and two brothers, Scott (Patti) Shirley of Bradenton, FL, and Todd Shirley of Neillsville.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
