Humbird (18 April 1974)

Mrs. Emma Gerber attended the baptism of Scott Eddie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Olson of Taylor. Mrs. Gerber is the baby’s godmother, Mrs. Olson is the former Judy Boettcher.

Craig Adams is now enjoying a furlough from the Navy with the home folks. He rode his motorcycle home from his station in California, which was a bit rough. He will return by plane to the east coast.

Ralph Finnegan of Burlington was here recently to see his mother, Mrs. Arnold Matti. He and his children, two sons and a daughter, left recently from Chicago on a trip to Hawaii. They will also visit relatives in California.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Newell and Virgil attended a wedding reception Sunday at the Walter Newell home near Hixton for Chuck Anderson and Judy Kennedy.

Miss Debbie Sterletske of Denmark spent last weekend with Tammy Duerkop. Sunday, Mrs. Elmer Duerkop and Alton and Mrs. Emma Gerber drove to Delavan, where Debbie and Tammy attend Wisconsin School for the deaf, taking the girls back to school, and then were overnight visitors at the Wedell Riggs home in Zion, Il. Mrs. Duerkop and Alton and Mrs. Gerber visited Mrs. Elsie Duerkop at Dodgeville and also at the Carl Aebersold home in Dodgeville before coming home.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Reider and his mother, Mrs. Mary Rieder of Rockford, Il., were called here by the death of Mrs. Emma Laffe, Mr. and Mrs. Rieder are guests in the Art Laffe home and Mrs. Mary Reider at the home of her brother, John Greub.

Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Parent and family drove to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McIntyre, recently to help her mother, Mrs. Pirl Burrington of Thorp, celebrate her birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips and Marilyn were in Port Edwards last weekend to be with her mother, Mrs. Art Allen, when she came home from the hospital. Mrs. Allen is regaining the use of her arms after suffering a stroke.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Meyer and family of Neillsville and Kenneth Meyers from Arizona, visited recently at the Perle Pickett home.

Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett drove to Barron Sunday to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. George Broadton. Mrs. Broadton recently underwent eye surgery.

Mrs. Glen Stuve, and sister, Mrs. Kenneth Green, with their mother, Mrs. Eleanor Gile of Merrillan and Zodie Van Kirk, recently returned from a Caribbean cruise.

Harry Wilson of Eau Claire visited Saturday at the Arnold Matti home.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Tichy of Mundelein, Il., visited Wednesday forenoon at the Newton home.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dignin of Ottumwa, Ia., spent several days last week with his mother, Mrs. Laura Dignin.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Duerkop and children of Stevens Point were here Saturday to spend the day at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Duerkop.

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kirby and family of St. Paul, Mn., were weekend guests at the Archie Kirby home.

Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Meyer of Silver Bay, Mn, Mrs. Judy Staves and daughters of Hudson, and Mrs. Kenneth Fitzpatrick and children of Black River Falls were Easter Sunday dinner guests of the Lyle Newell’s.

Monday evening, Mrs. Joy Sieg, Mrs. Maude Newton, Mrs. Eva Laffe, Mrs. Nordahl Fristad, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Stallard, Harriette Gorst, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Losey, the latter of Fairchild drove to Merrillan and attended the annual review of Merrillan chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Thane Joos of Alma Center, Worthy Matron, of the Humbird chapter also was present.

Mr. and Mrs. Dick Fitzmaurice and son, Charles and wife, of Cavour, S. D., came Friday evening to spend until Sunday with this parents, and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice and Mildred.

Mr. and Mrs. Willard Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Stanley and children were Easter Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Emma Gerber.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe were dinner and afternoon guests Sunday of Mrs. Hazel Field in Black River Falls. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Orin Wold and John of Disco, Gordon Wold of River Falls, Ed Field of Black River Falls, Mrs. Ida Wold and David and Mr. and Mrs. Norton Anderson of rural Black River Falls.

Mrs. Frieda Zerbel spent the Easter weekend at the home of her daughter, Mrs. LaVerne Kaufman.

Everett Smith was here from Spencer Saturday to take his mother, Mrs. Matie Smith, home with him to spend a few days.

Henry Spielman of St. Croix came Friday to spend several days with his cousin, Archie Kirby.

Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne parent and family drove to Thorp Sunday to spend the day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pirl Burrington, and other members of the family.

Mr and Mrs. Willis Johnson and family of Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bornowski and family of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Nering and boys of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Harland Meyers and family of Necedah Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Theiler of Cataract were dinner guests Sunday of Mr and Mrs. Ted Polege.

Mrs. Anita Markam suffered a fall at her home and has a painfully broken rib. Mrs. Fay Taylor of Mosinee came Friday to be with her for a few days.

Mrs. Gladys Lightfoot was an Easter dinner guests at the Leo Janke home.

Dinner guests at the Bernard Sieg home were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Blom and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Blom and children of Price, Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Sieg of Fairchild and Mrs. Laura Dignin.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson and girls were dinner and afternoon guests Sunday at the home of her brother, George Zuehlke, Jr., in Loyal.

Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips of Eau Claire were Sunday afternoon and supper guests at the Levi Fitzmaurice home.

Mrs. Theo Blom and Mrs. Jim Blom of Price and Mrs. Laura Dignin were in Eau Claire Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard Russell and her mother of Minneapolis, Mn, Mrs. Helene Nelson of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gerred, Kim and David Joos, of Janesville, and Mr. and Mrs. Thane Joos and karen of Alma Center were Easter dinner guests at the Newton home.

Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burnett in rural Hixton.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Carroll and children of Lombard, Il., came Thursday evening to spend the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Aeschbacher.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Duxbury attended graveside services held at the Upper Pigeon church for her aunt, Mrs. Clara Johnson, Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett were in La Crosse Tuesday, where both had checkups at the clinic. Mrs. Pickett didn’t bring back a very good report.

Mrs. Leo Janke, Mrs. Keith Johnson and their mother, Mrs. Gladys Lightfoot, were in Eau Claire Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Duerkop drove to Eau Claire Sunday afternoon to take their son Alton back to school.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dignin of Ottumwa, Ia., visited Friday evening at the Bernard Sieg home.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Duxbury were Easter dinner guests Sunday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Iron Hanke, in Plover. Other guests were her mother, Mrs. Ziegler of Black River Falls, and daughter, Mrs. Erven Standke, and husband and daughter of Jefferson.

Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips and Marylin were in Wisconsin Rapids over the weekend for a family get-together Sunday. Satruday night, her mother Mrs. Art Allen, became quiet ill and was taken to the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Breheim of Merrillan were hosts at dinner Thursday night at the 4-Corners Club near Melrose, in honor of the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett.
