Washburn (11 April 1974)

Fire destroyed the barn on the Bud Hansen farm Saturday night. The farm is better known as the Warren Lincoln, or Klein farm, and is located south of the Cannonville church about a mile.

A neighbor, Leonard St. John, had 11 or 12 sows and 266 pigs in the barn, and all perished in the fire besides hay and many articles belonging to Mr. Hansen.

The Granton Fire Department was called but couldn’t save the barn, as it burned so quickly; but they did save the other buildings. The barn and contents and animals were only partially covered by insurance.

We’ve had all kinds of weather this week. Had a thunder shower early Monday morning with real sharp lightning; Wednesday had rain all day; then snow Thursday forenoon. Neillsville had more snow than we had in this vicinity. Friday was a real beautiful sunshiny day. So we had a variety of weather. Robins, the spring birds, are very happily singing this morning, Satruday, and like the spring like weather.
