Fisher, Harry Louis (12 May 1872 - 18 July 1931)

Harry Louis Fisher passed away at his home in this city on Saturday, July 18, 1931, after an illness of three months. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home. Rev. Weaver of Merrillan officiated. The services were largely attended and the floral tributes were many and beautiful. He was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.

Harry Louis Fisher was born at Pine Hill on the 12th day of May, 1872. He was the son of William and Martha Fisher. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and on Feb. 5, 1899, at Colby, he was married to Miss Louisa Tuttle, of that place. They came immediately to this city, where they have resided ever since on German Hill.

Mr. Fisher has been employed for the past thirty years by the telephone company here. He was well known all over Jackson County and had hosts of friends in other counties. He was a fine man, devoted to his home and family and with a genial, kindly way that made friends wherever he went. He was loyal in his friendships and always ready to defend what he thought was right.

When he was taken ill it was a matter of deepest regret to all who know him and the heartfelt sympathy of all goes out to the members of his family in the hour of their bereavement. Mr. Fisher was one of the men of whom all had only good things to say. His loss is a loss to the community as well as to his family.

He leaves to mourn his departure besides his widow, seven daughters: Mrs. Harold Van Gorden, and Mrs. Mahlon Nordahl, of Alma Center, Mrs. Stanley Clodfelter of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Virgil Edwards, of Madison; Mrs. Oscar Voelker, of Colby; Mrs. Neal Duxbury, of this city and Miss Beulah and Harry Louis at home. One daughter, Mrs. Faye Duxbury, preceded him in death in 1929.

There are fourteen grandchildren: Betty Jo, Harold and Roger Van Gorden, Ethel Jane, James, Robert, Carol Lou and Thomas Nordahl, Juanita Ann, Duane and Donna Joan Edwards, Bonnie Jean and Virginia Ann Voelker and Richard Duxbury. There are two nephews: Robert Fisher of La Crosse; Ray Liskum, of Eau Claire; four nieces, Miss Nora Banker of this city, Mrs. Milton Olson of Eu Claire, Mrs. Frank Quidt, and Mrs. Rudolph Freet, of Rockford, Ill.

Those from out of town that attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Clodfelter, Peoria, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Edwards and Mrs. Erwin Gallagher, of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Voelker, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Olson, Mr. and Mr. Byron Olson, Mrs. Fred Olson and family, Frank Tuttle, Thomas B. Tuttle, F. M. Tuttle, of Colby; Lincoln Tuttle, Ed Tuttle and family of Brainard, Minn.; Mrs. Frank Quidt, Rockford; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cassler, Blair; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fisher, Harry Callahan, Misses Joy and Devah Adams, of La Crosse; Misses Loretta Pratt and Francis Hansen, of Sparta; Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Olson and family of Neillsville. There were also a great many friends from neighboring towns.
