Quicker, Jessi (May Junior Kiwanian)

May Junior Kiwanian

Jessi Quicker

Serving the youth of the community and helping to ensure they have the encouragement and support to meet life’s challenges is a central focus of Kiwanis clubs across the nation. At the local level, clubs engage in activities and projects that help to carry out this mission. A good example of this commitment to youth is the Junior Kiwanian program, which has been an on-going feature of the club for more than 50 years.

The Neillsville Kiwanis Club is pleased to have Jessi Quicker as its Junior Kiwanian for the month of May. She is the daughter of Don Quicker and Cindy Grota and is a senior at Neillsville High School. She was introduced to club members by Kiwanian Herman Seebandt at the May 4 meeting.

A common characteristic of Junior Kiwanians is their desire to excel academically, engage in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and connect with the community through volunteer efforts. This individual has demonstrated these qualities to an extent that deserves recognition.

Miss Quicker is a member of the National Honor Society, has received two academic letters, been on the A average honor roll for 12 quarters and served as class officer in her junior and senior years. She has served four years on Student Council, being vice president and president, has received gold and silver medals at the state forensics competition and was a 2014 Badger Girls State representative. Additionally, Miss Quicker is a varsity member and captain of the High Quiz Bowl team, has been a four-year clarinet player in the band and achieved second place at this year’s Solo and Ensemble. Athletically, she has been a member of the cross-country and track and field teams.

In the community, Miss Quicker shows strong involvement in a wide range of activities. She has been a 12-year 4-H member, serving as club secretary, acting as the youth representative on the 4-H board and earning the leadership and Citizenship awards, as well as Best Supporting Actress and Outstanding Secretary Book awards. In addition, she served as an altar server for six years at St. Mary’s Church, volunteered at community flood drives, assisted with food distributions and volunteered as a friendly visitor for the Interfaith Caregivers.

Following graduation, this highly-motivated student has plans to further her studies at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN.

The Junior Kiwanian program of the Neillsville Kiwanis Club gives recognition to outstanding senior students, provides an introduction to the concept of a service organization and emphasizes active participation in the community throughout the lifespan.

The members of the Neillsville Kiwanis Club welcome Jessi Quicker as Junior Kiwanian and look forward to her participation in their May meetings.
