Nickel, Herbert (17 October 1905 - 20 October 1973)

A former area resident, Herbert Nickel, 68, of New Ulm, Minn., died there Saturday, October 20. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Bitter of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe, officiating. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

The son of Henry and Ida (Ketelhud) Nickel, he was born October 17, 1905, in Milwaukee County and received his education in Marshfield schools. His marriage to the former Lydia Nauds too place November 9, 1927, in Neillsville. Mrs. Nickel preceded her husband in death on May 24, 1972. Mr. Nickel farmed in this area. He was also employed by the Berg Manufacturing Company. In 1957, he moved to New Ulm, Mn, where he worked as a barn equipment salesman.

Surviving are five children: Mrs. Robert (Jean) Barth of Homosassa, Fl., Mrs. Virginia Tykac of Carrollton, Ga., Mrs. Allen (Judy) Reid of Beaumont, Tx., Herbert Nickel, Jr., of Germantown and Mrs. Gordon (Sharon) Youngblom of Pillager, Mn. He is also survived by five sisters: Mrs. H. (Elizabeth) Ziemer of Greendale, Mrs. Lucille Knauf of Marshfield, Mrs. Robert (Leanore) Luchterhand of Loyal, Mrs. Jake (Viola) Wiegel of Marshfield and Mrs. Ray (Lorrai) Kampa of Milwaukee; three brothers, John Widmann of Milwaukee, Donald Widmann of Stevens Point and Melvin Widmann of Marshfield; and 13 grandchildren.
