Prochnow, Alice R. (Leichtnam) (30 JAN 1920 - 4 MAR 2015)

Former Athens area resident Alice R. Prochnow, 95, Medford, died on Wednesday, March 4 at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Medford, where she had resided the past three years, most recently under hospice care.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Lambrecht officiating. Interment was at Athens Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale Jr., Dean, James and Jonathon Prochnow, Billy Leichtnam and Rick Kuck.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Alice Leichtnam was born on Jan. 30, 1920 in Abbotsford to the late Edward and Rose (Tischendorf) Leichtnam. She attended Abbotsford area elementary schools, was a graduate of Abbotsford High School and attended beauty culture school in Eau Claire. She worked as a beautician in Colby.

On Nov. 1, 1941 in Athens, she married Earl Emil Prochnow, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 2005. They worked at Prochnow's Ball Room in the town of Hamburg and from 1948 to 1994 owned and operated it. In 1994, they moved to the Medford area to live near their son.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Belgian horses, and going to fairs and parades.

Survivors include a son, Dale (Bonnie) Prochnow of Medford; three grandchildren, Dale (Bonnie) Prochnow Jr., Dean Prochnow and Dawn Held; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Art Leichtnam.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in her name to Trinity Lutheran Church.
