Neillsville South Side (Riedel Returns - 1973)
Duane Riedel, elementary supervisor in the Marshfield Public School system and a
former Neillsville Southside grade school principal, has accepted the elementary
principalship in the Neillsville Public School system. He will assume his new
duties August 1.
Announcement of Mr. Riedel’s appointment was made by Supt. Gerald Makie, who
said that the selection follows several weeks of interviews. The new principal
will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Daniel O’Connell, who has
gone to Freedom as Superintendent of Schools.
Neillsville is no stranger to Mr. Riedel. Before going to Marshfield he served
as principal of the Southside Grade School for four years. As such, he was the
instructor of many of the young people who have remained in the community and
now will have children under him.
A native of the Granton are, Mr. Riedel attended the old Romadka State Graded
School; took high school work at Colby; attended Taylor County Normal School for
two years; then taught in Eaton Center State Graded School before coming to
Neillsville.
He is married and the father of a three-year-old daughter. Mrs. Riedel is a
former commercial teacher in the Auburndale School system.
