He joined the National Guard in 1949, was activated into the U.S. Army in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis, and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., for one year. Bob had many interests, but especially loved spending time at the cottage, being outdoors, being in high places, playing cards, antique cars, watching sports, campfires and snowmobiling. He did a lot of volunteer work, was active with The Highground, was involved with Cub Scouts from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s, co-founded the Snow Angels snowmobile club in 1969, and promoted the Corn Fest including hanging the banner on Main Street.
