Landry, Cleo (? - 18 June 1973)

Mrs. Wallace J. Landry, 80, a former Neillsville resident, died early Monday morning, June 18, at Oak Ridge (Tn.) hospital following a stroke. Mrs. Landry, the former Cleo Krampeter, was the widow of the late Wallace J. Landry who served as county agent in Clark County from 1929 to 1941. Mr. Landry, who died at Oak Ridge September 22, 1972, following a heart attack, was instrumental in the organization of rural electric cooperatives in western Wisconsin.

Mrs. Landry was born in Mondovi and grew up in Gilmanton where the Krampeters (missing lines). Mrs. Landry taught music in Mondovi, in Gilmanton, and in Menomonie while her husband was superintendent of the Dunn County Agricultural School there. In Neillsville, in addition to her teaching activities, she accompanied the late Dr. Sarah Rosekrans in her concerts, and also accompanied high school band 9instrumentalists at their solo and ensemble contest appearances. Richard A. Becker and Gab Wertsch were the band’s directors during those years.

The Landrys were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church while in Neillsville, and she was active in its women’s societies. When they moved to Port Wing, where he served as principal of the Consolidated High School, and Mrs. Landry continued teaching music. Faced with failing health, the couple moved to Oak Ridge, Tn., in 1962 to be with their son, John, who survives. Mrs. Landry is also survived by a daughter, Lenore Landry, of Madison.

A funeral mass Wednesday morning, June 20, at Oak Ridge was followed by interment Thursday morning in Resurrection Cemetery, Madison, beside her late husband.
