Riley, James J. (18 JAN 1928 – 25 NOV 2014)
James J. Riley, age 86, of Owen, passed away early Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at
Ministry St Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (415 West
3rd Street) in Owen. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to
service on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Withee.
Military Honors will be presented by Lublin American Legion Post #547, Owen
American Legion Post #123, and Owen-Withee Vets Club.
Jim was born January 18, 1928, the son of Patrick J. and Frances A. (Foster)
Riley in Owen. He graduated from Owen High School and went on to serve his
country in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines and Okinawa. He returned
home and worked on a dairy farm from 1951 until 1962. In 1961 Jim got a job as a
Rural Carrier for the Owen Post Office where he worked until 1988. On June 17,
1972 James was united in marriage to the love of his life Margaret Raymond at
Holy Rosary Church in Owen.
He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen and served on
the Parish Council for many years. He was very active in his community serving
two terms on the Owen City Council. Jim was also a past Chief and member of the
Owen Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance, member and past president of NARFE
and a very active life member of the Owen American Legion Post #123.
In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, hunting, playing cards and fishing. He
especially enjoyed his years with his golfing league. Those that knew him best
will miss his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his willingness to help those
in need.
Jim is lovingly survived by his wife: Margaret Riley; step-son: Bill Chrostowski
of Eau Claire; his siblings: Kathleen (Floyd) Clifton of AZ, Jerome Riley of AZ,
and Thomas Riley of TX. He is further survived by special friends, who he always
called family: Carl and Patricia Schilling and their children: Cory (Kimberly),
Nicole (Jeff), and Craig. He will truly be missed.
James is preceded in death by his parents: Patrick and Frances; as well as
brothers: Roger and Robert.
