ARMIN HENRY PETERSON

Date of Birth:       November 10, 1913 in Curtiss, Wisconsin; eldest son of Henry and Bertha Peterson; brother to Evelyn, Franklin, Ramon, Kathryn, Orlyn, and Lorrin.

Deceased:  September 16, 1997, Curtiss, Wisconsin.

Military History:

Armin entered the U.S. Army on June 27, 1942 and was an M.P. at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and Proving Ground, Illinois.  His duties were to enforce military laws, regulations, ordinances, and local laws.   He was sent overseas to Rhineland, Germany where he served at the 80th Field Hospital (bringing in hospital supplies).  He also served in this capacity in England, France, and Belgium.  He received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal World War II.  He received an honorable discharge on January 6, 1946.

Personal:

Except for his WWII years, he spent his entire life in Curtiss, Wisconsin.  He attended schools in Curtiss and Owen.  On August 24, 1959 he married Evelyn Nerdrum Fredrickson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss.  He was a loving father and mentor to his three stepchildren, Gerald (now deceased), Robert (Curtiss) and Joan (Weyerhauser).  He was a grandfather to six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was employed with the former Foremost Foods in Owen for 25 years and retired in 1976.  He was a Charter member of the Curtiss Lion’s Club, the Curtiss Volunteer Fire Department, the Curtiss Community Club, and the Owen American Legion.  He also served on the Curtiss Village Board as Trustee and the Council of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

His hobbies were many:  He was a railroad enthusiast, enjoyed shortwave radio, photography, and camping.  He also made many tape recordings of his family through the years.  He loved fishing; especially with his cousins (George and Kenny Schroeder) and close friends {John Erickson and Roy Ostenson (owner of the cottage)}.  For the past fifty years, they spent a week in the spring together at a friend’s cottage near Bloomer, Wisconsin.
