Saturday, Thorp High School was represented at the Eau Claire District Music Festival, which was held at the Eau Claire North High School. Members of the Thorp High School Band and Chorus competed in a total of twenty-four events, and all bet two received either a Frist or Second Division Award.

Ten students from Thorp are now eligible to enter the State Music Festival for having received a I rating in Class A. Ed Asselin with a trombone solo and a Girl's Triple Trio consisting of Judy Kubera, Gail Cook, Kathy Keating, Nancy Meyer, Lynn Paff, Sharon Kubera, Sue Gilbertson, Sue Oljniczak and Lynn Gajda will compete with the top rated high school musicians in the state on April 30.

All of the other students entered in Class A. received a II rating of "Very Good":

Nate Ciolkosz – Flute solo
Kathy Kluk – Tenor sax solo
Pete Anderson – Tuba solo
Kathy Keating – Clarinet solo
Nancy Nourse – Clarinet solo
Wally Staniec, Gail Anderson, Ardis Schmidt, Ed Asselin, Barb Budzinski, and Peter Anderson – Brass sextet

Class B soloists receiving a I rating were:

Mike Elkins – Coronet solo
Marilyn Dubicki – Clarinet solo
Ardis Schmidt – French horn solo

Class B soloists receiving a II rating were:

Mary Ann Lesniewski – Flute solo
Paulette Hintz – Piano solo
Laura Hintz – Alto Clarinet solo
Ann Wilhelm - Oboe solo
Ardis Schmidt and Sue Oljniczak – French horn duet

In Class C. Gordy Paulson received a I rating on his coronet solo.

Class C. soloists receiving a II rating were:

Donna Broeren – Flute solo
Paulette Hintz – Vocal solo
Barb Meske – Clarinet solo
Andy Asselin – Baritone solo
Julie Nourse – Oboe solo
