Smith, Florence (17 October 1884 - 6 July 1972)

Funeral services for a Town of Grant native, Mrs. Florence Smith, 87, of Memorial Home who died July 6, were held Saturday, July 8 at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith, the daughter of William and Mathilda (Schulz) Wedekind, was born October 17, 1884. She attended area rural schools. Her marriage to Art Smith took place July 5, 1909 in Rockford, Il. The couple worked on a farm in the Columbus area before returning to Clark County, where he was employed by the American Stores Dairy Company. Mr. Smith died on June 8, 1955. Mrs. Smith, who was a member of the United Church of Christ, has been a resident of Memorial Home since November of 1970.

Survivors include two children, Mrs. Helen Peterson of Black River Falls and Rollie Smith of Altoona; two sisters, Mrs. George (Clara) Shaw of Neillsville and Mrs. Herb (Alvina) Reikkoss of Milwaukee; a brother, Richard Wedekind of Neillsville; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bill Dux, James Musil, Fred Wall, Charles Marden, Gerald Christie and Ed Meier. Miss Julie Schmidt sang “In the Garden” and “Nearer My God to Thee”. Mrs. James Musil was the accompanist.

Those from out of town who attended the services included: Mr and Mrs. Rollie Smith, Altoona; Mrs. Helen Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shaw, Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Herb Reikkoss, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Peterson and family and Mrs. Hon Peterson and family, Black River Falls; Mrs. Sharon Shannon, Mrs. Orrin Johnson and Mrs. and Mrs. Jack Cameron, Minneapolis, Mn; and Mrs. Leona Damon, Rosholt.
