Gay, Leonard M. (15 SEP 1929 - 23 MAY 2014)

Leonard M. Gay, age 84, of Stanley, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 23, 2014 at his home.

He was born on September 15, 1929 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Edward and Ann (Rembleski) Gay. The family moved just west of Gilman when he was a young boy. He grew up in Gilman attending area schools.

Leonard joined the Army to fight in the Korean Conflict where he was severely injured. After that, he worked in Ely, Minn., as a lumberjack, worked construction for a time in Milwaukee and was a bridge builder in Wisconsin before moving back to help run the family farm. Leonard sold the farm and moved to Stanley in 1991. He loved going to auctions and buying "treasures." Leonard also was an avid outdoorsman, but most of all loved deer hunting.

He is survived by his brothers, Raymond of Cornell, Richard (Ann) of Sun City West, Ariz., Robert (Pamela) of Chippewa Falls and William of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one sister, Kathleen (Donald) Winn of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Walter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28 at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley, Father Madanu Sleeva Raja officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery with military rites performed by the Gilman American Legion. Memorials are appreciated to the VFW in Leonard's name.
