Casey, Arvilla M. (Horkan) (14 OCT 1916 - 25 MAY 2014)

Former Rib Lake resident Arvilla M. Casey, 97, Colby, died on Sunday, May 25 at Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, with Father Daniel Hackel officiating. Inurnment of her cremated remains will be at Calvary Cemetery in Reedsburg.

Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Arvilla Horkan was born on October 14, 1916 in Reedsburg to the late Peter J. and Nellie E. (McCabe) Horkan. She attended Sandhill Graded School in Sauk County. During school she worked on the family, then afterwards in Madison.

On April 29, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg, she married James P. Casey, who preceded her in death on December 29, 1987. They moved to Milwaukee where they lived for 10 years, and she was employed at Blackhawk Tannery. They then moved to Baraboo where they lived until 1980, then to Rib Lake until she moved to Colby in 2005.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Christian Mothers of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and volunteer for Hope Hospice, driving people to appointments and grocery shopping. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery, and most importantly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Dan (Connie) Casey, Monica (Bill) Tesmer, Kevin (Anna) Casey and Tim Casey; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Casey of Mauston.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Casey on May 16, 2012; two grandsons, Michael Casey and one in infancy; five brothers, Francis, Leo, Harry, Bernard and William Horkan; and a sister, Mary Riphahn.
