Brandt, Wilhelmina (3 APR 1860 – 24 Aug 1916)

Mrs. Brandt, wife of Rev. Brandt, died at their home on 4th Street on Aug. 24th, after a lingering illness. Deceased was born Wilhelmina Hilgendorf in Germany on April 3, 1860. At the age of four years she came with her widowed mother and family to Chicago and on Dec. 31, 1882, she was united in marriage to her bereaved husband. Eleven children were born to them, the eldest of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. Brandt was a woman of exceptional strength of character and truly Christian in all her life’s work. Her interest in the work of her husband was manifested at all times and she was deeply beloved by all the members of the German Lutheran Church, which congregation Rev. Brandt presides over. In every action she demonstrated her charitable and kindly disposition and her death is deeply mourned by the entire community, for no better woman ever lived.

Mrs. Brandt was laid to rest on Monday afternoon, services being conducted at the German Lutheran Church and interment being made in the Neillsville Cemetery. Rev. A. Bendler of Milwaukee, an old friend, preached the English and German funeral sermon, Rev. Thom of Marshfield conducted the liturgical part of the service in the church, and A. Paetz of McMillan officiated at the house. Otto Hellerman of Marshfield played the organ and a double quartette furnished the vocal music. The deacons of the church acted as pall bearers and the Ladies Aid Society attended the funeral in a body.

It was deeply regretted that Mrs. Brandt’s oldest son, Paul, could not be present at the funeral of his mother, but he was in Texas as a member of the National Guard and was unable to come.

Among those from out of town who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Thom of Marshfield, Mrs. Paetz of McMillan, A. Sydow of Rib Lake, M. Hillerman of Medford, C. Hartenstein and wife of Colby, A. Moecker of Dorchester, J. Abellman of Edgar, M. Haas and wife of Granton, H. Geiger and wife of NAugert, Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Fredrich of Lowell, Charles Brandt of Horicon, Mr. and Mrs. Lemke of NAugert. Also the sisters of the deceased: Mrs. Kruse of West Chicago, Mrs. Buttermeister of Chicago, Mrs. Huth of Milwaukee, Olga Hilgendorf of Chicago and her nephew, John Krause and wife of West Chicago.
