Abel, Meta #2 (20 JAN 1879 - 16 JUN 1946)

It has pleased God in His providence to call home unto himself one of the aged members of Immanuel Reformed Church, Mrs. William Abel. Mrs. Abel, the daughter of John and Catherine Schwarze, was born in a log house which was located opposite the present West Side Church parsonage, on January 20, 1879.

Mrs. William Abel was a lifelong member of Immanuel Reformed Church, where she was baptized into the Christian faith, was confirmed on April 2nd of the year 1893 and where she was married to William Abel on June 28, 1899m Rev. Johannes Schmalz officiating. Two sons were born to this union, Edwin William Abel and Theodore Paul Abel.

Throughout her years of marriage the deceased resided on her present home place. During the past nine years Mrs. Abel suffered with a heart ailment which became increasingly aggravated with the years, a burden which she bore in Christian fortitude. Following a sojourn of several weeks at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield, Mrs. Abel returned to her home where, after a period of one week, death came to relieve her of the burdens of the flesh, she departing this life on Sunday, June 16th at 8:40 a.m., having attained an age of 67 years, 4 months and 27 days. We who knew her as a member of our church and of our church’s Ladies Aid, will cherish her memory in faith, hope and love.
Mrs. William Schwarze Abel leaves to mourn her departure her husband, William Abel, her two sons, Edwin William Abel of Greenwood and Theodore Paul Abel of the Town of Beaver, four brothers; William Schwarze of Greenwood, Edward Schwarze of the Town of Warner, Alfred and Arthur Schwarze of the town of Warner and one sister, Mrs. Clara Braun of Beaver Dam. Two brothers Paul and John Schwarze preceded Mrs. William Abel in death. The deceased is also survived by six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.]

Mr. William Abel and the family express their most sincere appreciation of all kindness shown them during the years of Mrs. Abel’s illness and during these days of the family’s bereavement. In spite of death, other helpers did not fail and comforts did not flee. Sympathy and service are Christian virtues; let us never fail to practice them.

Funeral services were held at the West Side Church on Thursday, June 20th at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J.C. Klingeberger officiated. She was laid to rest in the West Side Cemetery.
