Varney, Charlie Abraham Lincoln #2 (25 APR 1865 - 04 OCT 1940)

Charlie Abraham Lincoln Varney, eldest son of Miran and Cynthia Withee Varney, was born in Skewhegan, Maine, April 25, 1865 and passed away at his home in Greenwood, October 4, 1940.
When he was three months old his parents brought him with them to La Crosse, Wisconsin, where they resided for 3 years and 3 years in Iowa, then one and on half years in Lewis Valley, thence to the pioneer farm west of Greenwood in the Town of Warner.

In early manhood he worked in the lumber camps in all parts of Clark County, so that he became very familiar with all its rivers and territory. His trade as a stone mason and plasterer carried him into many of the early homes of the County.

On November 27, 1890 he was united in marriage with Nettie May Van Airsdale of Saxeville, and they made their first home at Thorp, Wisconsin, later moving to North Dakota for a year and a half, thence back to the Town of Warner, where they resided until May 1908, when they moved to this city.

Four children were born to this union: Cynthia (Mrs. George) Einfeldt of Greenwood; Forrest of Sacramento, California; Vern of Madison, Wisconsin; Irene of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
Mrs. Varney died January 8, 1926.

On June 23, 1928 he and Lydia Einfeldt were married at Beloit, Wis.

Mr. Varney has served his community in several public capacities and as Trustee of the local Methodist church.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and children, seven grandchildren, four sisters; Mrs. Louise Warner of Deeth, Nevada; Miss Edith Varney, Mrs. Mabel Lamont and Mrs. Maud Nuffmire, all of Cheyenne, Wyoming and one brother Ralph of Great Falls, Montana and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, October 6, 1940, first at the home, then at the Methodist Church, the Rev. Alex J. Abbott officiating assisted by Rev. C.R. Gaylord of Stanley. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The pallbearers were fellow members of the Clark County Board; Wm. Schlinsog, Arthur Schwarze, Henry Duemeyer, Jos. Paschal, Thomas Thomas and Fred Drew.

The flower girls were the four granddaughters who were present and the Misses Dorothy Drake, Mary and Lois Smaldone, Jean Campbell and Maxine Sloniker
