Smith, Deborah Susan (Marriage - 18 December 1971)

Miss Deborah Susan Smith and Richard John Schoengarth exchanged wedding vows Saturday, December 18 at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Racine. The Rev. James J. Brady officiated at the double-ring ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the North Shore club. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James W. Smith of Racine. Circuit Court Judge and Mrs. Lowell D. Schoengarth of Neillsville are the groom’s parents.

The bride wore a gown of white satin styled with long, Camelot sleeves, an empire Basque and flowing, A-line skirt. Delicate Alencon lace and silk organza formed the yoke and high neckline. Matching lace, with white satin ribbon, accented the A-line silhouette and was repeated on the long, cathedral train. Her veil was a bandeau of lace caught to illusion veiling. She carried a Chantilly bouquet of white roses, white and blue carnations, baby’s breath and lemon leaf foliage brightened by moss green velvet ties as she was given in marriage by her father.

Susan Marie Minton, Racine, was the bride’s honor attendant. Bridesmaids were her bride’s two sisters, Dianne Lynn Smith and Danielle Louise Smith, and the groom’s two sisters, Carol Schoengarth and Barbara Schoengarth. The bridal attendants wore gowns of sapphire blue velvet fashioned with scoop necklines, short, puffed sleeves and controlled skirts. All carried white fur muffs and wore matching fur Camelot hats caught to a sapphire blue illusion veiling. Pinned to each muff was a single, large, dark blue mum together with deep blue star flowers and lemon leaves, tied with streamers of white velvet ribbon.

Ted Twesme, Milwaukee, served as best man. Groomsmen Dean Smith of Racine, the bride’s brother, Harvey Anderson of Buffalo, N.Y., and Dan Rowe and Robert Schrank, both of Milwaukee, also served as ushers.

Sister Kathleen Lowen was the organist and Mrs. William Flannagin was the soloist.

The bride, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and completed her internship at University Hospital there, is employed as a medical technologist at a Milwaukee hospital. Her husband attended the University at Madison for three years and is presently a junior at Marquette University Dental School in Milwaukee. He is affiliated with Delta Upsilon fraternity.

The newlyweds are on a two-week tour of the southwest. They will live in Milwaukee.
