Govek, Mary Ruth (Marriage - 23 October 1971)

Miss Mary Ruth Govek and Ronald James Volovsek exchanged wedding vows Saturday at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Michael Mertens of Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, and by the Rev. William V. Nikolia of St. James Catholic Church, Wausau.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Govek of Rt. 1 Willard are the parents of the bride. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Volovsek of Rt. 1 Willard.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor-length empire gown of angel mist taffeta, fashioned with cavalier-shaped sleeves and a Mandarin neckline. Bands of Val lace traced the A-line silhouette, sweeping into a chapel train. Her elbow-length bouffant veil of sheer illusion secured a profile of lace petals and organza loops. She carried a bouquet of lavender orchids and white stephanotis, accented with white satin.

Miss Carol A. Govek, Willard, was the maid-of-honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Joan Rakovec, Marshfield, Miss Donna Volovsek, Willard, and Miss Peggy Hium, Eau Claire. They were attired in lavender floor-length dresses and had ivy in their hair.

Richard Volovsek, Milwaukee, served as bestman. Groomsmen were John Govek, Antigo, Charles Lindner, River Falls, and Wayne Turnquist, Eau Claire. Guests were seated by William Govek, Eau Clare, and Roger Volovsek, Willard.

Music was provided by the adult choir. Mrs. Henry Lamovec was the organist.

A reception was held at Holy Family parish center. A dance was held at the West Side Hall in the evening.

The bride is a 1970 graduate of Greenwood High School. She has been employed as a nurse’s assistant at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. Her husband, also a 1970 graduate of Greenwood High School, is employed at Greenwood homes, Inc.

The newlyweds are making their home on Rt. 1 Willard.
