Crothers, Marcia N. (14 MAY 1919 - 23 DEC 2013)

Marcia N. Crothers, 94, Granton, died on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 27, at the York Center Methodist Church. Rev. Patsy Roe officiated. Lori Rowe, pianist, provided music. Interment was in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton. Casket bearers were Lee Ganther, Bill Ganther, Steve Nelson, Rick Bartsch, Jay Bartsch and Lenny Reich.

Marcia Nelson was born on May 14, 1919, in the township of River Falls, the daughter of Laurtz and Effie (nee Rudesill) Nelson. She graduated from River Falls High School and attended the River Falls Teachers College, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1944. She taught at various grade schools and then Maiden Rock High School until 1946. In 1947 she moved to Granton, where she met Jack Crothers. They were married in July 1947. Marcia taught in Granton and other high schools in the area. In early 1950 she took a job as Clark County supervisor and held that position until 1960 when she returned to her teaching career. After Marcia retired from teaching, she started Crothers Greenhouse and ran that until the early 1990s. Marcia was a member of the Clark County Choraliers, York Center Methodist Church and the Clark County Historical Society.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Crothers, Granton, and Mark Crothers, Granton; and one sister, Naoma Falde, Spring Valley.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack, in 1967; three brothers, Elton, Lambert and Velmo; and one sister, Emogene.
