Looker, Emma (11 NOV 1866 - 20 FEB 1952)

Emma Traverse, daughter of the late Henry and Sabrina (Bradshaw) Traverse, was born at Woodstock, Wis. On Nov. 11, 1866. She was united in marriage to William Looker at Woodstock on Sept. 29, 1889.

To this union were born nine children: Charles of Hayward; Leslie of La Farge; Cecil of Owen; Theron of Gerber, Calif.; Mrs. Nick (Veda) Mertens of Withee; Mrs. Edwin (Opal) Lang of Unity; Mrs. Wilbur (Velma) Stewart of Greenwood; Mrs. W.O. (Unita) Schult of Concord, Calif.; and Mrs. Orville (Mary) Matzke of Wausau.

Mrs. Looker, a former resident of Withee, has been an invalid for the past seven years, and has been cared for at the Ernest Halterman home at Stanley for the past four years. She passed away at the Halterman home at Stanley on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 1952, having reached the age of 85 years, 3 months and 9 days.

She is survived by the above named children, 31 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one brother, Will Traverse of Hillsboro, and two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Thompson and Mrs. Etta Stewart of Richland Center.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Withee at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 1952, the Rev. Leland Shaw of Stanley officiating. She was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.

She was an active member of the Withee Methodist Church and will be remembered by all who knew her as a decent Christian.
