Verhalen, Bonnie Rae (07 AUG 1965)

Saturday, August 7 at 1 p.m. Nuptial Mass, Miss Bonnie Rae Verhalen, route 2 Loyal and George Anthony Barten, route 1, Granton, exchanged wedding vows with the Rev. Norbert E. King officiating at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal.

Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Verhalen, route 2, Loyal and Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Barten, route 1, Granton.

The bride was attired in a floor length gown of nylon sheer over taffeta with lace appliqués forming the bateau neckline.  A fitted midriff topped the bouffant skirt with scattered appliqués and a row of lace near the hemline.  The bouffant illusion veil was secured to a nylon sheer bow with rose buds and pearlized orange blossoms.  Her flowers were a cascade arrangement of pink roses and white carnations with ivy.

Miss Nancy Barten, Granton, sister of the groom was the maid of honor, Miss Betty Loos, Loyal and Miss Claudette Kuehling, Unity were the bridal aides.  The bridesmaids wore identical floor length dresses of blue peau de soie featuring white lace boleros attached to white lace over bell shaped skirts.  Each had a matching rose headpiece with double circular veils and each carried an off center cascade arrangement of white and pink carnations.

Kenneth Verhalen, Loyal, brother of the bride, was asked to be the best man.  Ray Rondorf, Greenwood, and Terry Abrahamson, Milwaukee, the groomsmen.  Tom Spranger and John Repp ushered the guests.

A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents followed by a 4:30 supper for 250 guests at St. Anthony’s dining hall and a dance that evening at the Silver Dome.

The bride is a 1962 graduate of Loyal High School and was employed at Berg Equipment Corp., Marshfield.  Her husband graduated in 1961 from Granton High School and is employed at Consolidate Papers, Inc., Wisconsin Rapids.  After a wedding trip to the Black Hills the couple will reside at 240 ½ N. 8^th Ave., Wisconsin Rapids.
