Dodte, Carl (2 December 1885 - 30 December 1969)

Carl Dodte, 84, of Spokane, Wash., died December 30. Masonic services were held there and burial, with military rites, was made in Newport, Wash., January 3.

Mr. Dodte was born December 2, 1885, in the Town of Pine Valley. After graduating from the Neillsville High School with the class of 1903, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He went to Washington to work in the lumber camps and while there enlisted in the army in which he served in the engineer corps during World War I. He returned to the lumber business and was a logging superintendent for many years.

He is survived by a son, William, of Renton, Wash.; two sisters, Clarice Dodte, formerly of Spokane and now of Neillsville, and Mrs. Elsie Beilfuss and a brother, Bernard, both of Neillsville; and three grandchildren.

Of the 14 graduates of the Neillsville High School class of 1903, three were of the Dodte family: Carl, Olga (the late Mrs. Oscar Schoengarth) and Elsie, Mrs. (Beilfuss). The girls, who were twins, didn’t start school at six, and when they did go, their brother wanted to go also.

Miss Clarice Dodte, who has been living with her brother, Carl, since the death of his wife quite a few years ago, has returned to Neillsville and is now a resident at Memorial Home. She is a former Clark County Registrar in Probate.
