Bravener, Adelbert William “Dell” (11 September 1926 - 23 June 2013) With Flag

Adelbert W. “Dell” Bravener, 86, of Marshfield, formerly of Greenwood, passed away at his home Sunday, June 23, 2013, with family membe4rs present.

Adelbert William Bravener was born Sept. 11, 1926, in the Town of Frederika, Bremer County, IA, the son of Albert W. and Alice M. (Johnson) Bravener. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Frederika area, graduating from Frederika High School in 1945. After completing high school, Dell was drafted into the U. S. Army July 7, 1945, and served until his honorable discharge Dec. 16, 1946. He returned to Waterloo, IA, and worked at Rath Meat Packing. Dell was united in marriage to Norma J. Teter May 31, 1947, at the little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua, IA. They celebrated their Golden anniversary in 1997. They lived in Waterloo until 1950, when they moved to Loyal and farmed until moving to Greenwood in 1957. They farmed in Greenwood until retiring in 1994. In addition to farming, Dell worked for ABS Breeders for 42 years, worked at Thomas Stockyard in Greenwood, which he bought in 1972 and operated until 1978. He was also a semi driver.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Greenwood and the Greenwood American Legion.

Dell had many interests, but especially loved his family and really enjoyed spending time with all of them and supporting his grandchildren’s’ events. He was an avid sports fan, especially Packer football and Brewer baseball and enjoyed playing cards and fishing.

He is survived by his children, Carol (Dan) Richard of Marshfield, Dick (Vicki) Bravener of Marshfield, Danny (Toni) Bravener of Greenwood, Ken (Karen) Bravener of Indian Trail, NC, Barb (Rich) Kane of Platteville and Arnie (Brenda) Bravener of Arpin; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, William (Geri) Bravener of Tripoli, IA; one sister, LaDonna Bergmann of Frederika, IA; two brothers-in-law, Herschel (Colleen) Teter of Marshfield, and Dale (Barbara) Teter of Granton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma, March 31, 2004; and five sisters, Velletta Johnston, Valeria Schwartz, Claire White, Cleona Sonday and Lucille Bravener.

During the past years, he lived at the Aster Retirement Community in Marshfield. While at Aster, he enjoyed helping the other residents but mostly enjoyed playing Smear. He helped to welcome new residents and will be missed by all. The family wishes to thank the staff at Aster Retirement community for all of their services.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at Zion United Methodist Church in Marshfield. Rev. Mike Carlson will officiate, and burial will follow in Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dicky Bravener, Daniel Richard, Jason Bravener, Luke Bravener, Kevin Bravener and Jonathan Bravener. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood Wednesday, June 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
