Poppe, Gustavus (1 SEP 1855 - 3 FEB 1940)

Gustavus Poppe was born in Germany on Sept. 1, 1855 and came to Canada with his parents when he was two years of age, and when 19, went to Sheboygan, later moving to Clark County.

He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Warren Poppe at Mable, Minn. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 1940. The body was brought to Owen where funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Griebenow-Wierich Funeral Home. Rev. W.P.D. Powell of Owen officiated. He was laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery at Withee.

He is survived by two sons, Ed and George Poppe of Longwood; two daughters, Mrs. Louisa Buker of Mead and Mrs. Warren (Delia) Poppe of Marble, Minn. One daughter died in 1929 and Mrs. Poppe in 1927. There are also 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 brothers surviving.

The pallbearers were Ernest Buss, Otto Sachs, Ed Langfeldt, Geo. Burmeister, Geo. Vollrath and Carl Buss.

The flower girls were Violet Horn, Delia Poppe, Vivian Langeldt, Bonnie Norris and Pearl Hodnett.
