Haas, Evelyn M. (Harrop) (18 JUN 1924 - 17 APR 2013)

Evelyn M. Haas, 88, Colby, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Golden Living Center-Continental Manor, Abbotsford. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the church in Colby. Burial will follow the service at Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Evelyn was born June 18, 1924, to Sherman and Trena (Arneson) Harrop in Abbotsford. She attended Rosedale grade school and graduated from Abbotsford High School. Evelyn and Elmer Haas were joined in marriage on June 18, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They owned and operated a farm outside of Colby until retirement.

Evelyn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. She was a member of the sewing circle, a volunteer coordinator for Bethesda, Farmer’s Union youth leader. Evelyn also participated in AAL fraternal activities and was a member of LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) at Zion. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, crafts, sewing, watching birds, and playing music.

Evelyn is survived by her children, James (Linda) Haas of Middleton, Mary Lou (Philip) Dzick of Madison, Linda (James) Blain of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dean (Leah) Haas of Colby. She is further survived by five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-laws.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her grandson, Grant Haas; her brothers, Claire Harrop and John “Jack” Harrop; and her sister, Doris Weitzman.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home of Colby is assisting the family with arrangements.
