Walter, Arland Leonard (27 June 1936 - 11 April 2013)

Arland L. Walter, age 76, of Thorp, passed away at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield, on Thursday, April 11, 2013. There will be no services held.

Arland Leonard Walter was born on June 27, 1936, in Boyd, WI, the son of Sylvester and Alice (Shaw) Walter. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Boyd. Arland was united in marriage to Nadine Vircks on April 5, 1958, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stanley, WI. He worked at Cloverleaf Dairy from 1958 to 1963, and then at Nolechek’s Meats from 1963 to 1967, before buying a farm near Curtiss, where he farmed until retiring in 1999. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Thorp.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, flowers, cooking, bird-watching, going for rides and loved all animals.

He is survived by four children: Linda (James) Meyer of Abbotsford, David Walter of Thorp, Donna (James) Johnson of Colby, and Brenda Moeller of Cadott; nine grandchildren: Shana Anderson, Jackie (Fred) Schuknecht, Sara Moeller (Dave Ramseier), Becky Moeller, Maria Moeller, Jessica Moeller, Nathan Fitense, Jason Fitense, Ryan Fitense; two great-grandchildren: Havannah Gospodinoff, Sierra Ramseier; five siblings: Charles Walter of Minneapolis, Jim (Linda) Walter of Sparta, Dick Walter of Chippewa Falls, Elaine (John) Wedell of Wautoma, Ron (Donna) Walter of Greenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Arland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on December 2, 2008; and two sisters: Alice Potter and Margaret Buttke.
