Deputy Sheriff John A. Plunkett, of Clark county came to Medford on Friday last charge of a young man named John Brickman, who is charged with entertaining a desire to end his existence upon this mundane sphere.

It appears that the man in question owns a farm in the town of Little Black, in this county, where he has resided with his wife.

For some time past there appears to have been trouble brewing between the husband and wife, which resulting finally in a separation, the wife leaving.

Brickman then proceeded to sell the furniture and household goods, and after cleaning out everything, he went to Dorchester and inaugurated a first-class spree, by getting beastly drunk, and remaining in that condition several days.

On Thursday he would up his spree with an attempt at suicide by cutting his throat with a knife, but failed in his efforts by reason of the interference of outside parties.

A warrant was sworn out by A. Menzies, of Dorchester, and the young man was taken before Justice of the Peace, J. J. Lansworth, who sent him to this village in charge of an officer, to be delivered to the proper officers for examination as to his sanity.

The wounds inflicted on himself by the desperate man are not dangerous, and he will undoubtedly recover in a short time.

County Judge McCourt has taken the matter in hand and will see the case is properly disposed of.
