Parkel, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (65th - 18 January 1969)

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parkel of Greenwood observed their 65th wedding anniversary at their home in Greenwood on Saturday, January 18. The occasion was a quiet celebration with a 1 p.m. dinner attended by their children and other family members.

Mr. and Mrs. Parkel were married January 18, 1904, at Frontenac, Kans. Mr. Parkel, who is 90 years old, was born October 4, 1878, in Yugoslavia and came to Frontenac in 1902. Mrs. Parkel, the former Theresa Gorenc, who is 88 years old, also was born in Yugoslavia, on December 7, 1880. She came to Frontenac in 1903.

They moved to Clark County in 1917, settling on a farm six and one-half miles southwest of Greenwood. They lived on the farm until 1949, when they retired and moved into their new home which they built in Greenwood.

Their children are: Mrs. August (Theresa) Podobnik of Greenwood, Mrs. Nick (Ann) Babich of Loyal, Frank Parkel of Willard, Mrs. Joe (Helen) Wene and Mrs. George (Mildred) Miller, both of West Allis, and Mrs. Rudolph (Donna) Slinger of Milwaukee. A daughter, Mrs. Tony (Mary) Zupanc, died in April, 1947. The honored couple has 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. August Podobnik, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Babich and daughter, Barbara, of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parkel of Willard, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and Mrs. Joseph Wene of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Baird and family of Stevens Point.
