DOUBLE FUNERAL HELD YESTERDAY FOR MRS. ACKERMAN AND GRANDSON
A pathetic and heart rendering funeral service was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Curtiss, Wednesday afternoon it being the scene of a double rite with Rev. Roger Tellock officiating in the final blessings given the remains of Mrs. Joseph Ackerman and her eight-year-old grandson, John L. Roytek.
The two lost their lives in a two-car accident late Sunday afternoon that hospitalized six other persons.
MRS. JOSEPH ACKERMAN
Mrs. Ackerman, nee Lillie M. Burtardt, was born September 8, 1905, in Curtiss the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Burtardt. She spent her youth in the community and received her education in the public school system. On October 25, 1923, she was united in marriage to Joseph Ackerman in a ceremony performed at Dorchester. Since their marriage the couple had farmed and resided in the Town of Hoard.
Her tragic death is mourned by her husband; three sons, Joseph Jr. and Floyd, route 2, Owen, and Orlando, route 1, Owen; three daughters, Mrs. J. T. (Anita) Buoy, Murray, Kentucky, Mrs. Don (Dora) Evans, Waukegan, Ill., and Mrs. Barney (Donna) Roytek, Curtiss; three brothers, John Burtardt, Owen, Gilbert Burtardt, Curtiss, and Rueben Burtardt, Gilman; and 20 grandchildren. Two sisters preceded her in death.
Serving as pallbearers were Fritz Laabs, Walter Nicks Jr., Bud Glenzer, Kenny Glenzer, Alvin Krueger, and Ben Krueger.
