Masanz, Ethel (February 24, 1920 - March 8, 2010)

Ethel Masanz, 90, formerly of Stratford and Edgar area died on Monday, March 8, 2010 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

Ethel was born on February 24, 1920 in the town of Cassel, Marathon County to John and Romona (Dahlke) Kamenick.

She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Masanz on October 2, 1939 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon. Joe died on March 29, 1993.

After their marriage they lived in Marshfield and Stratford area where they owned and operated Joe’s tavern on highway 153 east until 1967. When they sold the tavern, they moved to Edgar and she worked seasonally at Figi’s in Marshfield. She had lived the past couple years at the Colonial Manor in Wausau. Ethel enjoyed knitting for her grandkids and having visits with them.

She is survived by her children, Marlyn (Judith) Masanz of Rib Mountain, Dale (Elmira) Masanz of Edgar, Allen Masanz of Marathon, Ronald (Karen) Masanz of Neenah, and Kris (Duwayne) Merkes of Edgar; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is further survived by two brothers, Rudy (Nancy) Kamenick of Fla., and Duane (Audrey) Kamenick of Edgar; three sisters, Genevieve (Alfred) Joswiak of Edgar, Eileen St. Pierre of San Diego, Calif., and Isabelle (James) Happli of Halder.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe; and four sisters, Florence Wallace, Lucille Webhi, Marie Koss and Anita Jagodinski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar with Rev. Robert A. Streveler presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marathon.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm on Monday, March 15, 2010 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar and again on Tuesday from 10 am until service time.

Sauter-Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford is assisting the family with the arrangements.
