Heimerl, George "Bill" W. Jr. (3 JAN 1926 - 5 FEB 2013)

George "Bill" W. Heimerl Jr., 86, Columbus, died on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Columbus Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 8 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus, with Rev. Steve Kortendick officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus, with full military honors.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Jensen Funeral and Cremation of Columbus assisted the family with arrangements.

George Heimerl was born on November 10, 1926 in Medford to the late George and Myrtle (Simerson) Heimerl.

He was a 1944 graduate of Medford High School, attended Wisconsin State Teachers College in Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on four different aircraft carriers.

On July 29, 1950 in Wausau, he married Marianne Simonson, who preceded him in death in 2010. He operated Heimerl's Variety Store in Medford for 15 years, then worked for Midland Cooperatives as a territory sales representative in southern Wisconsin until his retirement in August 1988.

He was a charter member of the Columbus Lions Club where he had served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying radio controlled model airplanes.

Survivors include three sons, David (Allie) of Neenah, Kenneth (Anne) of Canton, Mich., and Mark (Karen) of Mequon; two daughters, Nancy (Brian) O'Rourke of Rubicon and Mary Alice (James) Hughes of Lake Mills; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Partridge, and a brother, Lorin.

Memorials may be made to St. Jerome Endowment Fund, Columbus Community Hospital, Wisconsin Lions Camp or Columbus Public Library.
