Mullenbach, John Peter (28 FEB 1866 – 02 NOV 1919)

Mullenbach is killed by train

Peter Mullenbach, age 32, a farmer living about a mile and a half north of the village of Boyd, was instantly killed there this morning when going over the railroad crossing near the depot. A double header cattle train passing through the village struck the milk wagon in which he was riding and hurled him to his death. He evidently did not see nor hear the train and when a young man working in a warehouse nearby called to him, Mullenbach waved back thinking that he was joking. Coroner Henry Larson of this city was called to Boyd to make an investigation and found the circumstances as above stated. It is hard to determine just what responsibility, if any, attaches to the railroad company as the crossing where the accident occurred is a very dangerous one, there being warehouses on one side and a lumber yard on the other which obstructs free view of the railroad and prevents travelers from seeing trains coming or going. Boyd residents have for some time sought to have a warning bell installed by the railroad company.
