Frank Smolinski Killed By Car

Frank. J. Smolinski, 50, was instantly killed at 11:30 p. m. Sunday when he walked into the left front fender of a car driven by Elroy Cramer about ½ mile south of the depot on highway 13.

The victim suffered a frontal skull fracture, a compound fracture of the left leg immediately below the knee, and a severed artery in his left arm.

Smolinski, who was employed at the Emil Cartwright farm, was walking south down the center of the highway. Cramer was driving north at an estimated speed of about 40 to 45 miles an hour, when Smolinski walked into the side of the left front fender. The car did not pass over the pedestrian.

The fatality was investigated by Frank Cartwright and Gordon Olson, Marathon County traffic officers and County Coroner, John Hildensperger.

Mr. Smolinski, a World War 1 veteran, was born in Menasha and attended school at Mannville. He was employed in and around Spencer most of the time.

The body was taken to the Swarthout Funeral Home where it lie in state until the funeral which was conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 30 at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Surviving are two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Willima (Frances) Pat[,] Leo Smolinski, and Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Baczyenski, all of Marshfield, and Harry Danbroski, Menaha.
