Walter Mehner (30 June 1887 - 19 August 1959)

Funeral services for Walter Mehner 72, were held from Salem Evangelical United Brethren church here Saturday, Aug 22, with the Rev. Harold Welch, pastor, officiating at the final rites.

Mr. Mehner died in the afternoon of Aug. 19 in the Medford hospital, where he was taken following a stroke suffered at his residence in Riverside hotel at Medford.

Burial was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery following the services for which Mrs. L. D. Sorenson was organist, and Mrs. Leonard Fredlund of Cedar Falls, Iowa, sang “Lead Kindly Light” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Louis Sebold, Arthur Herman, William Malchow, Otto Genrich, Martin Stelzel, James Richter, Joe Hennlich and Henry Lindau. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.

Walter Baldwin Mehner was born June 30, 1887, in the village, and had resided here most of his life until moving to Medford a few years ago. He attended village schools, and was a painter by trade. He worked with his brother Ernest for many years in this and surrounding communities at the painting trade.

He never married and also resided with his brother and family until retirement about five years ago when he moved to Medford, where he had since resided.

Three brothers and three sisters survive: Ernest of this village, Eric of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Edmund and Mrs. Esther Arneson, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Irma Murphy, of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Elsie Hesselgraves, Cleveland, Ohio. Two brothers, Baldwin and Werner, and a sister Victoria, preceded him in death.
