Peterson, Eugene M. (26, August 1930 – 31 December 2009)

 

Eugene M. “Gene” Peterson, 79, of Black River Falls died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, in his home in the Town of Albion, Jackson County.

 

He was born in Black River Falls, Aug. 26, 1930, to Merlin and Etta (Chrisinger) Peterson.  He was graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1948.

 

Gene married Charlotte Tomter Jan. 12, 1952, in Black River Falls.

 

He owned two can milk routes and one bulk route, which he sold to Virgil Bohac. He farmed in Kenyon Valley until moving to their current farm on Moss Hill Road, where they have lived until he retired.  He also was very active as a cattle dealer.

 

Gene enjoyed ponies and driving his cart in several local parades.  He was known for playing euchre at a local tavern.  He loved John Deere tractors and dairy cattle.

 

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte; seven sons, Steve (Kathy), Mike (Kay), Jim (Tammie), Dale (Vonnie), Joel (Joy),  and Dan (Katie) Johnson, all of Black River Falls, and Russell Peterson, Tomah; a daughter, Jeanne (Steve) Calhoun, Black River Falls, two brothers, Verland “Chubb” (Arlene) Peterson, Black River Falls, and Larry Peterson, Crivitz; four sisters, Carol (Duane) Lambert, Alaska, and Marian Hagen, Judy (Arvid) “Ole” Olson and Lois Ferries, all of Black River Falls; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Funeral services for Eugene M. “Gene” Peterson were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, from the Little Norway Lutheran Church, Hwy. 54W at Black River Falls.  Pastor Calvin Thoreson officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends called at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321), Black River Falls, on Monday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

 

The family prefers memorials be given to either the Little Norway Cemetery Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
