King, Robert James (28 November 1945 – 8 March 2010) With Flag

 

Reverend Robert James King, 64, retired pastor of the East Delta parish (congregations located in Garden, Fayette and Cooks, MI), passed away Monday March 8, 2010, at his home in Appleton, surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was born Nov. 28, 1945, in Escanaba, MI, and was the son of Leo and Gertrude (Verhagen) King.  Robert graduated from Escanaba High School and then served in the U. S. Army from June of 1968 until he was honorably discharged in August of 1970.  During his time in the service, he married the former Catherine Creten Sept. 16, 1967, in Flat Rock, MI.  He then graduated from Western Bible College in Denver, CO, and also attended Denver Theological Seminary.

 

Reverend King served parishes in Black River Falls for seven years (Black River Falls Baptist Church and Indian Hills Community Church) and the East Delta parish for 15 years living in Crooks, MI.  After his retirement in 2005, he and his wife moved to Appleton.

 

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons, Daniel (Lara) King of Monterey, CA, Benjamin (Lyssa) King of Appleton, Jeremiah (Tessa) King of Raleigh, NC, and David King of Mumbai, India; daughter, Rachel King of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Nate, Nicholas, Tristan, Soren, Aiden Lilly Christian and Ariana; mother, Gertrude Kutches of Powers, MI; brothers, Randy King, and Glen (Ann) King of Flat Rock, MI, and John Kutches of Gladstone, MI; sisters, Marian (Lloyd) Sodergren of Danforth, MI, Sandy McVory and Marsha (Herb) Iverson of Gladstone, MI, Marlene (Bob) Valley of Soo Hill, MI, and Carolyn (Steve) Perry of Powers, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father Leo King.

 

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta Veteran’s Council services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral home.

 

Funeral services celebrating the life of Reverend Robert James King will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.  Reverend Dennis Episcopo will be officiating.  Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery.
