Grassman, Edith Jane (2 March 1925 – 23 February 2009)

Edith Grassman, 83, of Marshfield, formerly of Granton, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Marshfield Care Center in Marshfield.

Edith Jane Grassman was born March 2, 1925, in Marshfield, the daughter of Glen and Edith (Smith) Langrehr. She attended and graduated from Marshfield Senior High School and then worked in retail at various jobs in the area.

She was united in marriage to Richard R. Grassman Aug. 18, 1945. Along with working as a homemaker and raising two wonderful children, Edith also worked as the secretary and bookkeeper at the Granton School District for many years.

Edith was a member of the Zion American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton. She was a member of the Women’s Group at the church and for many years she taught Sunday school. Her hobbies included traveling, camping, fishing, but her most enjoyment came when she was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Jerold R. (Carol) Grassman of Black River Falls; three granddaughters, Jennifer Grassman of Black River Falls, Carolyn (Ryan) Johnson of Black River Falls and Margaret (Scott) Sedlar of Austin, TX; three great-grandsons, Joshua Thundercloud, Nathan Johnson and Jack Sedlar; three great-granddaughters, Kaytlin Johnson, Sophia Sedlar and Amelia Sedlar; and one brother, Al (Elsie) Langrehr of Marshfield.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in May of 2007; a son Jack, in September of 2007; her parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Jack.

A Memorial Service for Edith was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton. Pastor Keith Lueneburg officiated. Music was provided by Marjorie Dahl, organist and the Zion American Church Choir. Interment was in the Zion American Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Honorary Casketbearers were Nathan Johnson, Bruce Langrehr, Greg Langrehr, Joshua Thundercloud, Ryan Johnson, David Hillert, Wayne Kurth and Mike Kurth.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Zion American Evangelical Lutheran Church, W 2840 Hill Road, Granton, WI 54436.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Edith’s family with funeral arrangements.
