The “Silent City”
Keeping up on the news in the ‘Silent City’
George Merlin Hull, portrayed by Eugene Hertzfeldt, reads the latest issue of the Banner Journal July 12. Hertzfeldt was one of the stops on the 2008 tour of the Voices of the Silent City. The tour was held in the Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls and was sponsored by the Jackson County Historical Society. Nine actors portrayed deceased historic figures of early Jackson County. During his lifetime, Hull was the editor of the Jackson County Journal until he bought the Badger State Banner and created the Banner journal. Hull also served as the Secretary of State of Wisconsin and a number of terms as a legislator in Congress. Other notable historic figures depicted during last Saturday’s event were Harriet Slosser portrayed by Kay Zinn, France Perry portrayed by Cindy Hertzfeldt, James Thomas portrayed by Ed Hertzfeldt, Louis Drecktrah portrayed by Mark Olson, Peter Hoffman portrayed by Gary Morris, Henry Gebhardt portrayed by Larry Hansen and Louis Gardipee portrayed by Rev. Charles Cavanaugh.
