Langfoss, Joan (5 Mar. 1943 - 13 Jan. 2009)

Allouez Township, Mich. -- Tues. night, Jan. 13, 2009, was the Sunset of the life of Joan Langfoss, who succumbed after a 22-month battle against AML Leukemia. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Her Sun.se was March 5, 1943, as the second child of the late Leo and Ruth Haub in Chicago, Ill. Her older sister, Carol Vaceluke and her husband, Ron, presently reside in Tucson, Ariz.

Joan's best friend of 52 years and husband for 43(+) years is Dale Langfoss. They met as freshmen at Steimnetz High School in Chicago, and the odyssey began. After three years of marriage and the birth of their first son Erik, Dale graduated from the University of Illinois and they moved to Mt. Horeb. Three years later, Joan gave birth to twins, Kent and Kirk, and they moved to Marshfield. Once the boys were in school, Joan worked for the public school system at Nasonville Elementary School in the LMC for 20 years. While the boys were in school, she was the local 4-H club leader. She was also the business assistant at her husband's architectural firm.

In 1984, they purchased property on beautiful Lake Superior in the Keweenaw Peninsula (Upper Michigan) and began building a summer "camp." In 1995 they started an addition which was to become their retirement home. It became their permanent residence in 2002. It is a place family and friends can come to and enjoy nature and the Yooper way of life.

As of this date, Joan's family consists of: Erik, his wife Kathie and children Riley and Claire living in Phillips; Kent, his wife Becky and children Hannah and Aaron living in Marshfield; Kirk, his wife Lisa and children Miranda, Connie, twins Cassie and A.J., and Daniel living in Marshfield, and her husband, Dale.

Because of the harshness of winter, and according to Joan's wishes, a "celebration of her life" memorial is being planned for later this spring, more information to follow later.

Also, having traveled to Belize, Central America many times since 1991, having made so many friends in a country with such a diverse culture and history, it was Joan's desire to contribute to our friend's program which provides incentives and opportunities to underprivileged and at-risk teens. Therefore, a memorial fund is being established in her name to accomplish this. Again, more information to follow later.

Finally, Joan's family wants to thank all her friends for their support; to thank the Marshfield Clinic and St. Joseph's Hospital; to thank the staff of Aspirus Keweenaw Fitness and Rehab Center in Laurium, Mich.; to thank the Allouez Township, Mich., First Responders; and the doctors and staff of Portage Health in Hancock, Mich. for their support and compassion. Especially during her final days.

Joan--WE LOVE YOU!
