Butler, William H. (19 July 1922 - 11 Mar. 2001)

William H. Butler, 78, of 702 S. Cherry Ave., of Marshfield, died at 12:05 a.m. Sun.March 11, 2001, at the Marshfield Center where he had been a patient since Feb. 14, 2001.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Fri. at Faith Lutheran Church. Rev. Gary Hedding and Rev. Peter Muschinske will officiate. Music will be provided by William Allen, soloist and Maldon Plank, Organist. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Fri. at the church.

Hansen Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mr. Butler was born July 19, 1922, in Marshfield, the son of Alison J and Martha (nee Lahr) Butler. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Marshfield Senior High in 1942. He then attended Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam. In December 1992 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater, including the Philippines, New Guinea and the Hawaiian Islands. He was discharged on Dec. 31, 1945 in Japan.

On May 25, 1946, he married Lois Beseler at her parent’s home.

He returned to Marshfield and worked for Felker Brothers for one year. He then joined Beseler Steel Products as a Co-Owner. He retired in 1972. In addition he and his wife owned rental property in Marshfield.

Bill was a direct descendent of Captain Miles Standish, who arrived on the Mayflower. His great-grandmother, Martha Ann Standish, was an eight-generation descendent.

He was a chapter member of the Air Stream Campers group for over 44 years and the Marshfield American Legion Post 54.

Survivors besides his wife, Lois Butler, include two sons, James F Butler of Marshfield and David H. (Gail) Butler of Marshfield; and three grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth, Kelly Marie and Tracy Lynn Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by one half-brother, Lavern Butler.
